All software has been developed with ease of use in mind, automatically detects which type of card is inserted and runs under ALL Linux and Windows operating systems. The algorithms are always optimized in any way possible, ensuring compatibility with all versions of the operating systems.
1 Update the smartreader with the firmware V2 update tool.
2 Under windows. If you can not update the smartreader or the settings tool doesn't recognise the smartreader, use the "enable smartreader VCP" tool or start device manager. If the device manager doesn't recognise the smargo, in some cases "vcp" has to be enabled. You can enable the vcp in the device manager under usb (smargo) or under USB serial converter and turn on vcp.
3 Under windows. The comport must be lower than 16. You can change the comport by selecting in the device manager, comports, USB serial port of the smartreader. Double click on USB serial port, select ports and advanced. Now you can change the com number.
4 Make sure that you use the latest software. The V2 will be handled by the most popular software automatically. If you want to use an older version of the software without direct smartreader support, you can manually change the parameters.
* use the settings tool to assign an unique name/serial to your smartreader
* add the following line:
device = SRV2, Serial xxxx (xxxx is the unique name given to the smartreader using the settings tool, you can find the serial number in the log file)
The Smargo® SmartReader Plus can not only be used in Linux or Windows computers but also in satellite receivers, routers, USB hubs or other embedded systems, as long as an USB connection is available and open source software is supported. Extra cables or power supply are not needed.
